Macro Photography & Silver Clay Workshop

Macro Photography & Silver Clay Workshop

Friday 4th October 2019

11am - 4pm

Location: The Nest, Hall Farm, Walton Road, East Winch, Kings Lynn, Norfolk PE32 1HH

What is Macro Photography? A unique form of photography that involves capturing small objects to make them look life size or larger in a photo. Macro photography is a chance to marvel at the detail, to really focus and observe so much that we miss in our busy lives and forget to take time to truly see. Mindful photography at its very best.

This workshop aims to make you ‘Stop and Stare’. To marvel at the breathtaking detail of a butterflies wing or dive in to some Honeycomb. To inspire you to open your eyes again and really notice and appreciate the magical natural local world we live in.

Morning Session

Joe Welham, a Freelance Fine Art Photographer, will lead the morning’s session, supported by Katie, who is delighted to welcome him to Wild Oak Workshops. Joe will take us on a guided magical mystery tour around the garden where you will be able to study with a special Macro attachment lens* the incredible detail of structural textures of bark, fragile fronds of fern, flower petals, leaves or whatever you discover under a microscope.

Surrounding ourselves with the sights and sounds of Katie’s beautiful country garden you will ‘mindfully’ take photos with a gentle purpose and gain some clever tips about lighting, focal points and composing a picture more artfully.

During our wanderings you will be asked to collect objects to use in the second half of the workshop back at The Nest. So keep your eyes peeled for intricately veined leaves, seed heads, moss or lichen.

Back at the Nest, at around 12:30pm, we will break for lunch. A selection of teas, coffee and refreshments will be supplied.

Afternoon Session

After lunch with our energies restored you will capture your ‘Natural Treasures’ that you found earlier into Silver Clay. A specially chosen specimen tray will be supplied with a gorgeously natural array of foraged and harvested seasonal findings from the local forest floor and garden to also choose from. Once you have chosen your precious objects we will get cracking as Katie guides you through the technique of imprinting onto Silver Clay. Setting, burnishing and then creating either a pendant or keyring for you to immortalise your treasures and keep forever.

*You will be supplied with the Marco Lens that clips onto your mobile phone. Do feel free if you own an SLR camera to bring this along too.
